   On July 10, Col. ?? Smith's troops were attacked by 1,600 mounted Confederates in Monroe Station. The Union troops were able to hold off the Confederates while they waited for reinforcements. After arriviving, the Confederates were overwelmed and hastily made a quick retreat.
