Organized at New Orleans, La., September 27, 1862. Attached to Defences of New Orleans, Dept. of the Gulf, to December, 1862. Independent Command, Dept, of the Gulf, to January, 1863. Unattached, 1st Division, 19th Army Corps, Dept. of the Gulf, to June, 1863.

SERVICE.--Operations in La Fourche District October 24-November 6, 1862. Capture of Donaldsonville October 25. Action at Georgia Landing near Labadieville October 27. Duty at Baton Rouge and in the District of La Fourche until May, 1863. Advance on Port Hudson May 20-24. Siege of Port Hudson May 24-July 9. Assaults on Port Hudson May 27 and June 14. Designation of Regiment changed to 1st Corps do Afrique June 6, 1863.
